Personal 365 Project | Week 13 - Ramstein Family Photographer
I am challenging myself to document the authentic, in-between moments for my family. This is what our 2017 looks like . . .
When we moved into the house in September, we found a tiny little bottle buried in the backyard. It makes the perfect bud vase for these little flowers.
Soon after the school year started, you two started coming home with Jolly Rancher lollipops. Apparently you would raid your piggy banks and buy them on the bus from a 5th grader who called himself Candyman Jeff. It continued until one day Henry came home with 12 lollipops. I asked how much money you spent and was told that lollipops are 25 cents each, or 4 for a dollar. I was annoyed by the amount of candy that was entering the house, but also disappointed that I hadn’t taught you two to be better negotiators – one does not buy in bulk without getting a discount – surely you’ve spent enough time in the souks to know that! I gave you each a quarter and a dollar, and told you that you were allowed to purchase either 1 lollipop, or negotiate with your supplier to get 5 for a dollar. You both got off the bus that day with sad faces – apparently Candyman Jeff’s hustle had gotten him suspended from the bus for 3 days. Unfortunately you didn’t get to test your negotiating skills on the bus – but we did pool our money and buy a bulk container of lollipops, just for fun!
Anna – you brought home a school assignment where you had to write about something that made you feel lucky. You wrote that you were lucky to have such nice eyelashes. I’m so glad you don’t take them for granted, sweet girl!
You two spent about 5 hours digging the big hole – your goal was to make it to bedrock. You uncovered all kinds of treasures – neat rocks, interesting worms, and little scraps of metal. You also found a little piece of pipe which inspired you to create a fountain. You dug a smaller hole, connected it to the large hole with the pipe and as you poured water into the small hole, it would filter through the pipe to the large hole. You were both sad to pack up and come in at the end of the day, but vowed to add a third level tomorrow.
No tournament today – just backyard fun.
