Gray Julian - Northern Virginia Lifestyle Newborn Session

I was so happy to meet Emma several months ago when we first got together to discuss her little one's newborn session. She was drawn to the idea of an in-home newborn session for her baby because she wanted to capture him in his first home. Emma and I are both military spouses - which means we move a LOT . . . our children will have a LOT of homes in their lives. As a mother, I work hard to document my own children's lives in photographs - not just the big events and milestones - but the little, everyday things - their rooms in our homes, their backyard, their favorite stuffed animals or toys - it provides them with a sense of self and history, and it spoke to my soul to talk to another mama who wanted the same for her little boy.

Gray's dad, Andrey was deployed for much of Emma's pregnancy, but thankfully made it back just in time to squeeze in a maternity session as they waited the last few weeks to meet their son.

We are high school sweethearts! We’ve lived all over from Minnesota to Korea to Hawaii and now Germany. Andrey was deployed for most of the pregnancy, so it’s just so wonderful to all be together as a family now.

Gray Julian was welcomed to the world on June 13.

It is so surreal to be someone’s mom! I still can’t believe it. Gray is so sweet and I am in awe of how perfect he is.

It’s also surreal watching Andrey be a dad. It’s just been the two of us for so long, but seeing him with Gray melts my heart. He loves him so much.

We decorated his little space with some pieces we got in Hawaii. We loved living there and the nursery feels happy and relaxed like life there. The matryoshka doll daddy + mommy + baby print was actually a card from his great aunt. I love it because Gray is half Ukrainian. Also the burp cloths in the basket were made by one of his grandmas. This boy is very loved! I love that he has a little space just for him with special pieces even though living this military life means it won’t be his home forever.

It took us a while to settle on a name. Graydon is a family name on my side, but we liked Gray as it kind of made it his own. It’s unique and feels kind of like a modern twist on a classic. His middle name is also a family name as he shares it with one of his grandpas and one of his great-grandpas.

These pictures make my heart so happy! I love the ones of all his perfect little features and the ones where he is alert so you can see his cute expressions. But then I love his sweet face when he sleeps and the ones of him and his daddy. I seriously love them all and am just so happy this sweet boy chose us to be his parents. We are so lucky!
