It is always an honor to be invited into your homes to document you and your loved ones. Typically I meet you in happy times – when you have something to celebrate – a new baby, a birthday, visiting family – these times are easy and I’m happy right along with you – I usually leave with sore cheeks because I’ve been laughing and smiling with you for hours.
A few weeks ago, Christina reached out to me to see if I was available to document a special guy in her life. She and her family had come to the difficult decision that it was time to say goodbye to her lifelong friend, Kooie.
The love of and for a dog is so sacred. They feel and hurt along with you – they’re happy with you – they love life with you – they are sad when you leave and greet you with slobbery kisses when you come home. They don’t judge you – they just love you. They make you a better person.
Kooie spent his last day at home surrounded by his people. He had a life well lived and well loved – and it was important to celebrate – with a peanut butter cake, no less! I watched a family respectfully and tenderly care for their hurting friend. I documented selflessness. This is what it looks like.
